# Layout, Print & Ratios

Layout work turns ideas into exact measurements. At 300 dots per inch (DPI), an A4 page of 210 × 297 mm needs about 2480 × 3508 pixels, and printers often ask for 3 mm of bleed beyond the trim edge. Aspect ratios, US Letter and other paper sizes, safe areas and grid columns use the same arithmetic.
