# Web & HTTP

HTTP is the protocol that browsers and servers use to exchange web pages and data. Every response carries a status code, such as 200 for success, 301 for a permanent redirect and 404 for a missing page, plus headers that control caching, cookies and security. Requests carry a URL, often with a query string, and a user agent string.
