# Education Tools

Education tools support learning and teaching: calculating grades and grade point average (GPA), studying with flashcards and timers, making quizzes and worksheets, running a classroom, practicing a new language and building typing speed. Grading scales differ between schools and countries, so check any calculated grade against the scale your school publishes.

## Frequently asked questions

### How is a GPA calculated?

A grade point average (GPA) is the average of your grade points weighted by credit hours. Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add the results and divide by the total credits. An A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course give a GPA of about 3.43.

### What is the difference between a weighted and an unweighted GPA?

An unweighted GPA uses the same scale for every course, usually 0 to 4.0, while a weighted GPA adds extra points for harder courses such as honors or college-level classes, often on a scale up to 5.0. Schools differ in which courses they weight and by how much.
