# Shopping & Discounts

Two discounts do not simply add up: 20% off followed by a further 10% off is 28% off in total, not 30%, because the second discount applies to the reduced price. The same arithmetic finds sale prices, tips and split bills, unit prices for comparing pack sizes, and cashback.
