# Weight & Mass

Mass is the amount of matter in an object, while weight is the force gravity exerts on it, but everyday language uses weight for both. Tons differ by system: a metric ton is 1,000 kilograms, a US short ton is 2,000 pounds and a British long ton is 2,240 pounds. A stone is 14 pounds.
