Frequently asked questions

Are the results from finance calculators financial advice?

No. A calculator applies standard formulas to the figures you enter and returns an estimate. It does not know your full situation, local rules or a lender's exact terms, so check important decisions with a qualified financial adviser, a tax professional or the lender itself.

What is the difference between simple and compound interest?

Simple interest is paid only on the original amount, while compound interest is also paid on interest that has already been added. At 5% a year on 1,000 for two years, simple interest gives a balance of 1,100 and annual compounding gives 1,102.50.

What does EMI mean on a loan?

EMI stands for equated monthly installment, the fixed amount you repay each month on a loan. Each installment covers that month's interest plus part of the principal. Early installments put a larger share toward interest, and later ones repay more of the principal.
