Health & Fitness Calculators

Health and fitness calculators estimate body measurements, energy and nutrient needs, training targets, sleep times and pregnancy dates from the numbers you enter, using published formulas. The results are estimates for information, not a diagnosis, and they cannot replace advice from a doctor, dietitian, midwife or other qualified professional who knows your health history.

Frequently asked questions

Can a health calculator diagnose a medical condition?

No. A BMI, calorie or due date figure is an estimate from a formula, while a diagnosis needs an examination and your medical history. Talk to a doctor or another qualified professional about symptoms, treatment or any result that worries you.

How is BMI calculated?

Body mass index (BMI) is weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. Someone who weighs 70 kg and is 1.75 m tall has a BMI of about 22.9. BMI does not tell muscle from fat, so it is a screening measure rather than a direct measure of health.

How is a pregnancy due date estimated?

The usual method, Naegele's rule, adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of the last menstrual period. It assumes a regular 28-day cycle, so a dating ultrasound scan early in pregnancy usually gives a more reliable date.
